All-state tennis teams released

The Michigan High School Tennis Coaches' Association (MHSTeCA) released its all-state teams this morning, and there aren't too many surprises - or omissions - to talk about. The kids that deserved recognition - based on how the state picks its teams - made the list.
It was good to see Rochester Adams' Halle Hyman make the list. Playing in a stacked region that included the state's Nos. 2 and 4 seeds (Lexi Baylis and Raven Neely), she fell in the semifinals, denying her a trip to Midland. She was one of the top 5-6 players in Division 1, so it was nice to see her honored. She's just a sophomore, so she'll be hungry to come back and make a statement next season.
You can always tell the all-state teams - for the most part - are selected off performances at the state finals. The same names that are misspelled on the brackets are misspelled on the all-state listings (ie. Brittany Friesen, Meg Phyle). Don't worry, I corrected them for our publication.
Anyways, the all-county tennis team has been selected. We're now figuring out a day to run it (Thursday, perhaps). Stay tuned. I'll be in touch.
