Great day to be from Oakland County

Congratulations to all the state champions - both individual and teams - Saturday from across the state. I made my way up to Grand Blanc (Genesys) and had a chance to see some great tennis, including perhaps the best match I've seen all year.
Lahser's Mollie Fox outlasted Richland Gull Lake's Sara Remynse in three sets to win the No. 1 singles title. Top-notch tennis on both sides of the net. Gutsy effort by Fox, who finally broke through and can now call herself a state champion.
And Marian left no doubt who was the best team on Saturday. The Mustangs started the 2nd day a little rough, but rebounded well thanks to their singles (Lauren Dietz, Breann Lunghamer and Catherine Yaldoo) and the 2-doubles team of Tatyanna Dadabbo and Sally Thoresen.
In all, there were six Oakland County champions in Grand Blanc (Fox, Lunghamer, Meryl Reams, Nancy Benda-Jackie Meier, Dadabbo-Thoresen and Lauren Benderoff-Sam Lareau).
Cranbrook won seven flight championships in Division 3, Sacred Heart won five in Division 4 and Clarkston and Mercy had one each in Division 1, giving Oakland County 20 overall. That's nearly 2/3 of the total flight championship in the state (32).
Again, congrats.

I'll be back to blog more after I get some rest. So check back. For now, click on the links below for stories on each of the four division championships Saturday.
