Big week of hockey ahead

First and foremost I want to thank the tremendous response to my requests last week regarding calling, emailing and submitting information on high school hockey games. I sensed a little frustration on the part of some coaches who try to call in their scores, only to be forwarded to a full mailbox.
But we received more calls and actual game-story submissions than we have all year long. So hockey got more coverage than it has all year long. I want to thank everyone who made it happen this week. And I still encourage other coaches to contact us as well.

Showcase hockey
This week is jam packed with exciting hockey, with both the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase in Chelsea and the MIHL Showcase in Trenton taking place. The Public Showcase is in its second year after a great showing last year. The Showcase has expanded to 53 teams this year, competing in 52 games. It's got a nice mix of teams this year, including five of the top-10 teams in Division 1. The game I'm most looking forward to is Saturday night's matchup between Lake Orion and Novi, two of my Top-10 Oakland County teams in my latest rankings.
The MIHL Showcase has too many great matchups to mention here. I already summarized some of the best in my story on MIPrepZone.com. Aside from the Hill Academy (Toronto) vs. CC and Cranbrook, I would say the most intriguing matchups will be those pitting the U.P. teams against MIHL squads, most notably Marquette-Cranbrook and CC-Calumet.
Again, read my story or visit the MPHSH or MIHL websites for more information.

MAC-OAA Showcase a success
The third-annual MAC-OAA Showcase was held at the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester this past Saturday, with 30 teams playing 15 games throughout the day. The OAA finished an impressive 8-3-4 against the MAC to win its third-straight challenge. Among the winners for the OAA: Troy, Rochester United, Troy Athens, Stoney Creek, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills United, Avondale and Royal Oak. We were able to cover a few of the games from the Showcase. Click HERE to go to our hockey home page to read them.
