Yale captain and former Cranbrook star Andrew Miller (17) lifts the national championship trophy. |
Oakland County - and the MIHL in particular - has a lot to celebrate after Saturday night's national championship hockey game in Pittsburgh. Yale beat Quinnipiac, 4-0, to win the national title.
And a lot of the thanks must go to a pair of former Oakland County high school hockey players. Yale captain and former Cranbrook star Andrew Miller (2007 Mr. Hockey), along with former St. Mary's standout Clinton Bourbonais, each scored a goal to
lead the Bulldogs past the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

Like I mentioned in
my blog Friday, it's easy for me to miss some great performances at the collegiate level, considering I spend most of my time covering high school hockey and tennis. But Miller's and Bourbonais' performances put them in the spotlight - along with teammate
Ryan Obuchowski, a Catholic Central grad. So congrats to Yale, and to high school hockey here in Oakland County. Both were winners Saturday night.
