Oxford wrestling surprises everyone but themselves with semifinal win

Oxford wrestling coach Brandon Rank wasn't necessarily surprised his sixth-seeded Wildcats beat No. 2 Brighton in the semifinals Saturday at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. But he was surprised at how easily they did so.
The defending state champions pounded Brighton 52-13 and will get a shot at a repeat when they face Catholic Central here in a couple hours. Liam Logan, Prescott Line, Zach Wood and Edwin Schlickenmeyer all picked up pins in the rout. Kyle Hill, Noah Cantara, Rocco Borg, Wes Maskill, Marty Giannola, Matt Anger and Dan Curtis also picked up wins for the Wildcats.
Don't expect things to get easier, though, as Catholic Central is the big favorite to recapture the state title Oxford snatched from them a year ago. I'll be back later for another blog update later.
